Subject: A "satirical masterpiece"? Not quite.
Subject: A "satirical masterpiece"? Not quite.
This slim volume is trying to be one of those joke reference books any student of Japanese has received as a gift in their lives - those little books like "DIRTY JAPANESE" or "Wicked Japanese for the Business Traveler" (the one I got) that make fun of the way those CAH-RAAAAAZY Japanese think & act and contain a few in-jokes for those who actually know the language but do actually try to impart some language knowledge.
On the one hand, it's comforting, in a weird way, that the presence of these books has persisted over the years - they will always be with us, like eyelash mites. On the other... this is apparently from a time when the general grasp of the Japanese language in the West was, let us say, tenuous at best...and the stuff that's meant to taken straight here (the pronunciation of simple words approximated _very very loosely_ through English text) contains more genuine humor than the book's actual attempts.

5 lights. Defiantly the good route to Japanese saying.
(This book is a satirical masterpiece, featuring a glowing review from "Wrong Idiot News")
